Hot Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
A classic hot chili, the Cayenne pepper produces slim, fiery-red pods about 2–3 inches long, with a heat rating of around 40,000 Scoville units. Plants mature in about 100 days, yielding an abundance of slender, glossy fruits that pack a sharp, spicy punch.
Originating from subtropical regions, Cayenne peppers thrive in warm, moist conditions but can also be grown indoors in pots year-round. The compact plants look striking when loaded with clusters of ripening red peppers, making them both productive and ornamental.
Highly versatile in the kitchen, Cayenne is widely used for spicing up Oriental and Asian dishes, as well as for sauces, seasonings, and drying into chili flakes or powder.
