California Wonder Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
An heirloom favorite, the California Wonder is one of the oldest and most reliable bell pepper varieties, well-suited to Canadian gardens. Plants mature in about 120 days, growing into sturdy, leafy bushes about 2 ft. tall with a strong, woody stem. They are highly productive, especially when fruits are picked continuously until frost.
The peppers are blocky, 4-lobed, and medium-sized (up to 4 in. long). Fruits ripen from green to bright red, offering excellent flavor at both stages. Flesh is thick, crisp, and juicy with a mild, sweet taste.
A rich source of vitamins A and C, these peppers are ideal for fresh eating, salads, roasting, and stuffing—their thick skin and bulky shape make them especially well-suited for the latter.
