How to Grow Herbs from Seed
1. Start Indoors

When: Any time after March 1.

Use a clean garden soil mix.

Plant in individual pots or a seed-starting flat.
2. Planting Seeds

General rule: Cover seeds with soil about 2× their thickness.

For tiny seeds (like basil or thyme): just press them gently into the soil surface — don’t cover.
3. Watering

Water gently with a spray bottle or light sprinkle.

Keep soil moist but not soaked (wet soil can cause rot).
4. Germination

Cover pots with clear plastic/poly to hold in warmth and moisture.

Place in a sunny, warm spot (like a south-facing window).
5. After Germination

Once seedlings are about 1 inch tall:

If in pots: thin to 1 plant per pot.

If in a flat: transplant seedlings into individual pots.

6. Moving Outdoors

When: After all danger of frost has passed.

Transplant into the garden or larger pots.

Space plants at least 12 inches apart so they have room to grow.
