Welsh Onion (Allium fistulosum) 

Also known as green onion, salad onion, or scallion, Welsh Onion is a hardy perennial onion that provides a reliable harvest of fresh, vitamin-rich greens from early spring onward. Unlike bulb-forming onions, it produces a dense root clump that overwinters and re-sprouts year after year.

Plants form upright clusters of 7–9 dark green, hollow leaves, reaching about 18 inches tall. The leaves are tender, juicy, and mildly pungent—perfect for fresh salads, garnishes, and everyday cooking. With regular picking, new leaves quickly regrow, offering a steady supply of greens all season long.

Welsh Onion is exceptionally cold-hardy and drought-tolerant, making it one of the easiest onions to grow. A single planting can thrive in the same spot for 4–5 years, providing generous harvests with minimal care.

How to grow:
Sow seeds directly outdoors in a permanent location, spacing plants 6–10 inches apart. Water regularly, and enjoy fresh green onions from spring through fall.
