Wisconsin Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)
An heirloom variety developed by the University of Wisconsin, this hardy, non-hybrid cucumber is perfectly suited to cool Canadian climates. Fast-maturing at just 55 days, it is both disease-resistant and highly productive, making it a reliable choice for northern gardens.
Plants can be grown on a trellis when space is limited without reducing yield. Harvest young, firm fruits for pickling, or allow them to mature fully into 8" long cucumbers with rounded sides. When ripe, the skin turns yellow, and the fruits become exceptionally juicy and crisp—ideal for fresh eating and salads.
One of the standout qualities of Wisconsin cucumbers is their lack of bitterness, even in hot or stressful growing conditions—something that sets them apart from many other varieties. It’s this consistent sweetness and crunch that makes them a customer favorite year after year.
