My First Lavender Harvest

For experienced lavender growers, my first harvest might seem modest — but to me, it’s a moment of pure joy. Seeing last year’s plants blooming for the first time is truly special.

Out of the 650 plants I planted last summer, 140 brave little survivors made it through the winter — and they’re now in full, fragrant bloom!

This season, I’m not just celebrating this first harvest — I’m also expanding the lavender field and replanting where I lost plants last year. I’ve learned a lot since that first planting. One of my biggest mistakes was assuming young lavender seedlings didn’t need much watering. I followed that advice from internet… and it cost me many plants during the summer heat.

This year, I do things differently:
Watering daily during the first week after transplanting, then every 2–3 days afterward.

The difference is remarkable — my new patch already looks stronger and healthier than the old one ever did.

Yes, I’ve learned the hard way — but that’s how growth happens, both for plants and for people.
